Career Roles In Big Data

Guest post by Imarticus Learning

These days, it seems like the term ‘big data’ has become somewhat of a catchphrase for anyone working in the IT sector, or someone who is remotely interested in data science and technology. The main reason is probably the fact that big data is potent enough to create ginormous miracles on a daily basis. For instance, you’re planning a big trip to someplace very exotic, the first thing that you would do is begin to look for hotels. While you are looking for hotels, you come across an email in your Inbox, which gives you great discounts on bookings of hotels, in the very location you were looking for. This is no mere coincidence, but one of the wonders of data analytics.

Data Analysts are professionals who deal with all of this data and are able to offer millions of people exactly what they are looking for, just by processing the data they generate. As this kind of work brings in amazing profits for the companies, these professionals are handsomely paid; adding the fact that there are still very few of them, there results a high demand for these professionals.
Studies show that trained professionals in this industry are going to be more and more sought for in the future. A career in this field definitely seems to be a very lucrative and awarding prospect, mainly because of the attractive income and the greater work structure. In the early days of this industry, a number of fields where data analytics technologies were used were extremely expensive but, as time passed by, they came to be affordable. This was the reason why a lot of people started considering Big Data as a career option. There are two types of roles here, those that are clearly IT-focused and those that are Analytics-focused.

IT-Focused
Two of the main career roles here would be Hadoop Developer and Hadoop Administrator. Hadoop is considered one of the most advanced data analytics technologies, apart from being flexible and very affordable. Someone who is a Hadoop Developer will have responsibilities like designing, developing and implementing the various data processing applications in a real time set up. These roles require a thorough understanding of the Hadoop Framework and its other components with major emphasis on IT applications. The role of a Hadoop Administrator is similar to that of a traditional database manager, which basically focuses on configuring, deploying and maintaining Hadoop clusters.

Analytics-Focused
These job profiles are essentially for those professionals who are familiar with various data analytics mechanisms. The main jobs here are Data Analyst and Data Scientist. A Data Scientist does not need any kind of introduction as it is already been proclaimed to be the best job of the 21st Century. Both these professionals would be responsible for analyzing great volumes of data, manipulate that data and derive great insights out of it. A Data Scientist doesn’t just deal with big data applications, but also needs to know the total length and width of the data that is being analyzed.

One thing is sure about all of these job profiles: just having a generic degree, will not cut it. This is the reason why a number of aspiring candidates opt for various courses of specialization in data analytics tools, from esteemed institutes. Imarticus Learning is an award winning & leading institute in Analytics, which trains aspirants in Data Analytics both in classroom programs and online courses.
